Jan 25, 2002 · The F code 302-2V was made from 68-73. The 68 F code had 10:1 compression and made 210 bhp. The 69 and 70 F code 302's are rated at 220 bhp. They dropped off after that. The 68 J and F code heads show to be the same in my information. The difference in horsepower was from a higher compression piston and the 4 barrel intake and carb. This is typical of an early small-block Ford head with smaller 53–57-cc chambers. The very early 221/260 head has even smaller chambers. Here’s a larger 64-cc chamber in an aluminum aftermarket cylinder head. Chamber size affects compression ratio. Aluminum enables you to run more compression because it gets rid of heat more quickly. After it's time on the pump, the DZ 302 posted 357 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 333 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 rpm. In 1978, Ford made both the 302 and 351W head interchangeable with no displacement numbers cast on them.The last part is how to determine a 255 from the 302 and 351W head. The Tunnel Port 302 cylinder heads feature 2.12" intake and 1.54" exhaust valves. By comparison, the 289 High Performance engine used 1.78" intake and 1.44" exhaust. These large valves completely filled the wedge shaped combustion chamber. The exhaust ports were larger than normal 289 & 302 heads.
